What I learnt about PR from Katy Perry

Posted on Updated on

Katy Perry and PR? Is it a possible match? Yes, of course it is! Sorry but I couldn´t help writing a new version of Katy Perry´s contributions to the PR world, especially for the PR pros who work at an agency. I know it´s not the most original post, but again… I couldn´t help it.

Here you can find four PR-related temptations we can experience:

  • So comfortable we´re living in a bubble bubble, so comfortable we cannot see the trouble trouble

This case usually happens when you´ve been working for a client for a long time and you feel really at easy within your comfort zone. You think you know everything about that client that you just do the same as always and start to ignore the competitors, the market, the Social Media trends, etc. Working this way is only feasible for a very short time and changing the attitude is a must if you want to keep that client with you. Wake up before it´s too late!

  • There is no fear now. Let go and just be free. I will love you unconditionally

Very similar situation to the previous one. When you start to win some successful battles with your client and little by little you lose the fear. And even more, you feel the brand as of your own. You love it, all your brand proposals look amazing in the client´s eyes, you design and execute everything you want for it. And slowly you start to take decisions without consulting them with the client… Well, unless the client gives you a blanch carte remember that the brand is not your property so before launching something big publicly you need to have the approval from the client. Otherwise, consequences might be… Well, better never reaching that point.

  • They say be afraid. You’re not like the others, futuristic lovers

This happens when you are on a pitch to gain a new client that it´s completely new to you… Well, to you and almost to everyone on the earth. When you are fighting to gain a client that works within the nanotechnology, the Super Dupa extra advanced Big Data or white concrete materials. Everyone is telling you, why do you want to get into that shit when they are gonna bring you more troubles than good moments? However, you feel seduced by it and decide to move forward until the end. Sometimes it works, you gain the client and you become an expert in that field. Other times… Well, at least you tried it out J

  • I kissed a girl and I liked it the taste of her cherry chapstick. I kissed a girl just to try it, I hope my boyfriend don’t mind it. It felt so wrong, it felt so right. Don’t mean I’m in love tonight

Well this happens when you are monitoring your competitors ´activity and you get fascinated by the beauty and perfection of the actions of one of them. And… You are aware you cannot express this publicly, otherwise you might be in trouble! However, little by little you start to take small steps to get closer to that sexy competitor. Firstly, you follow it on Twitter (with the excuse to better monitor it), then you accidentally Like one of their tweets and finally on a Saturday night out you are sharing its news on your Facebook profile ignoring your current client… Well, you´d better prepare a good few excuses for the emergency call you´ll have on Monday!
